Stamp Out the NFA is a grassroots effort to abolish the tax imposed by the National Firearms Act.
As many of you know, there have been numerous attempts by state and federal politicians to chip away at your 2nd Amendment rights. Unfortunately, some of these attempts have been successful. One of the most far reaching and longstanding measures implemented to restrict your constitutional rights is the National Firearms Act (the "NFA"). For a historical look at the NFA and how politicians took advantage of the citizens who elected them at a time in history when the general population was at its weakest during the Great Depression, you can check out this this article.
Quite simply, the NFA was enacted as a tax (because otherwise it would have been unconstitutional) designed to make criminals out of any US citizen who could not afford to register their firearms. The original draft of the NFA included pistols, revolvers, or any other firearm capable of being concealed or having a barrel length of 16 inches or less. It also defined a "machine gun" as any weapon designed to shoot automatically, or semi automatically, 12 or more shots without reloading. If these definitions had been adopted every pistol, revolver or semiauto firearm in your arsenal would have required months of wait time, registration and an additional $200 "tax" stamp. The intent was made clear by the proponent of the NFA, Attorney General of the United States, Homer S. Cummings (D), who wanted the cost of firearms ownership to be so high it would take "guns out of the hands of the criminal class." In other words, the political elite did not want the average citizen to own guns. This attack on gun owners and the Constitution must come to end.
